Indian National Congress candidate Mohammad Safiur Raham Ansari won and became MLA from this seat. He secured total 25644 votes. Bharatiya Jana Sangh candidate Shankar Prasad Jaiswal stood second with total 21100 votes. He lost by 4544 votes.
