In 1974, Bara legislative assembly constituency had total 113575 electors. Total number of valid vote was 67519. Indian National Congress candidate Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna won and became MLA from this seat. He secured total 36238 votes. Bharatiya Kranti Dal candidate B D Singh stood second with total 12184 votes. He lost by 24054 votes.
